Many people wonder whether their sexual performance time is “normal,” and the scientific community has also taken an interest in this question.
In fact, one of the most widely cited studies on this topic was published over 20 years ago in The Journal of Sexual Medicine. The study aimed to objectively measure sexual duration and yielded much more varied results than people expected.

The research involved 500 heterosexual couples from five countries: the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, Turkey, and the US. It combined average time tracking with survey methods.
All male participants were over 18, in stable relationships for more than 6 months, and had regular sex. The sample represented a “typical” population without selecting for any sexual dysfunction or health conditions.
Sexual duration was measured over four weeks, and data such as condom use and circumcision were also recorded.
The average time from penetration to ejaculation across the five countries was 5.4 minutes. However, some sessions lasted less than a minute, while others went over 44 minutes — showing a huge variance.
A trend showed that older age groups had shorter durations: people aged 18–30 averaged 6.5 minutes, while those over 51 averaged 4.3 minutes.
There were also differences by country, with Turkey having the shortest average duration at 3.7 minutes — noticeably lower than the others.
The researchers noted that neither condom use nor circumcision had a significant effect on the duration.
